Yuki Wentworth

Yuki was born into a pure bloodline of elemental spirit contractors. Her mother and father had been lucky enough to be soulmates and childhood friends. Yuki should have grown up in a rather loving home; however, her power over nature was nothing like her mother's. Most of the flowers she could grow and enhance were all of a toxic variety. This scared her mom and made her hide Yuki from the world. They pushed Yuki to be more like her older brother, graced with the element of light. He had quickly formed contracts with two sylphs and one warden as he got older.

So her parents assumed that Yuki's powers should have been soft and light. Good in their words, instead of the 'evil' she carried. They looked upon her as if she were some sort of curse. For years, Yuki dealt with their ridicule and decided to pick up a sword. If she was banned from using her small basic powers...something that was a part of her... If she couldn't find a spirit to contract...then she needed something to protect herself with.

Of course, her mother hated that idea! Her mom even went as far as to try to force Yuki into a contract with a spirit known to be 'good and nice'. This resulted in the loss of her right eye. There was no chemistry between her and the sylph-level spirit, and Yuki took the full hit of its anger. She had only been 15 at the time...

After that, her mother gave up and began to avoid her. Yuki never knew for certain if it was due to fear or guilt. She had grown somewhat immune to the whims of her family, though. At the age of 17, she managed to find and form a contract with a spark-level spirit named Hilla. She was a sweet spirit in the form of a sparrow. Her affinity was creating heavenly bamboo. Once Yuki hit 18, she set out on her own. Looking for someone to help her train in the ways of the sword.

She didn't receive anything from her parents, simply vanishing in the middle of the night. She traveled around the world, and eventually met an older emberkin who was traveling to see the world before he died. Despite the chaos started by the self-proclaimed leaders, she and Ekras lived well. He kept his word, helping her train with the sword, and never once did he shy away from her powers. He actually thought it was amazing how a spirit contractor could turn a poisonous plant into a sleeping charm or use it to simply paralyze the body.

By the time she reached the age of 20, she lost Hilla to her newest spirit, Elera. Elera was a warden-level spirit and didn't like the idea of sharing her contractor with a lowly spark. Of course, it took a part of Yuki's lifeforce and caused great tensions between them. However, Ekras helped smooth things out. Pointing out that Yuki's chemistry with Elera surpassed that of Hilla's. And despite the loss of her first spirit, Erela was the better option.

At the age of 21, Ekras had passed away. As per his wishes, she bound his body in the larkspur flowers she now controlled masterfully. She used one of the teleport gates set up around the world. And teleported back to the volcanic lands of the Emberkin species. She placed his body in the calm, flowing lava pit, watching his body slowly sink. Uttering the words he had taught her, "May your soul turn to ash and be reborn in flesh."

She went on in her travels until a scroll appeared before her. Holding her name along with an invitation to work and bring peace back to this world. She didn't hesitate, tearing the scroll. The thought of a soulmate being the farthest thing from her mind.
